私を悩ませることのひとつは、人々が成功をお金の問題とのみ結びつけることです。裕福になればなるほど成功しているというわけです。私はこの考え方が好きではありません。重要な職業と人々が日常的に力を注いでいるその仕事とを傷つける場合があるからです。
私は実際に、人生はゲームだと信じています。ただ、プレイできるゲームは多数あります。ですから皆さんはどのゲームをプレイするか、また、自分にとっての成功とは何であるかを決めることができます。
私の娘の幼稚園には数名の教員がいます。その中には、賢く、子供たちのための最善の環境づくりに長けた先生もいます。（私の子供たち） :-) ある日、私は自分の住む街の周辺にどのような職業があるかを調査しており、その幼稚園の求人情報を目にしました。 私は彼らの給料の安さに驚きました。教員の給料が安いことはこれまでにも聞いたことがありましたが、彼らの責任の重さを考えれば、もっと高いと思っていたのです。
政府が資金を提供しているため、学校は不動産、学用品、食品などを計算に入れて、在籍生徒数に基づいて予算運営をしなくてはならず、教員の給料分はあまり残りません。 さらに、昇給や昇進の余地がほとんどありません。
このような状況で、私の娘たちはほぼ毎日、次の日にまた通園することを望んで顔に笑顔を浮かべて帰宅しているのです。彼女はいつも私たちに自分が作ったものをいくつか見せたり、蟹と遊んだ様子やトマトを摘んで学んだことを話したりしています。
彼女は、彼女の先生たちの仕事が成功しているという事実の生き証人です。彼らは子供たちをいい意味で刺激しています。しかし、このゲームでは金額が釣り合っていません。
Covid-19に関わる人々を支援している看護師にも同じことが言えます。友人と一緒においしい食事を楽しむ私のために快適な環境づくりをすることのできるレストランのスタッフも同様です。
私は起業家として、自分の会社のために収益を得るゲームに参加しています。これは事業のゲームです。ただし、誰もが同じゲームに参加しているわけではなく、また、そうすべきでもありません。ひとつの会社の中でさえ、人々は様々なゲームをプレイしているのです。時として、営業陣が契約上の問題を抱えていたとしても、インターフェースで顧客を喜ばせているデザイナーは成功者です。エンジニアとは、不具合なしで迅速に何かを提供した人です。
成功とは、自分がプレイしているゲームで勝つことです。マネーゲームは単なるひとつのゲームです。幸福や喜び、家族のゲームをプレイすることを選択してもよいのです。私の親友の中には健康ゲームをプレイしている人もいます。一度に複数のゲームに参加することもできます。
私は自分が量のゲームをしていると考えるのが好きです。その中で私は何百万もの人々に手を伸ばすことを望んでいます。そして、私はそのゲームではまだ負けています。このことが私を駆り立て続け、私は前進を続けるのです。
皆さんはどのようなゲームをしていますか？プレイしていて楽しいですか？もしそうなら、それが一番大事なことです。
There is more than one way to be successful.
One thing that bothers me is when people relate success as money and only that. The richer you are, the more successful you are. I don't like this because it undermines some core professions and the work that several people have to put in daily.
I do believe that life is a game. But there are lots of games you can play in it. So you get to decide which game you are playing and what success means to you.
At my daughter's kindergarten, there are several teachers. Some of them are smart and savvy for creating the best environment they can for their kids. ( My kids) :-) One day, I was doing research on what kinds of jobs exist around my city and saw a job post for the place. I was surprised by how low their salaries are. I heard before that teachers' salaries are small, but I expected more than that for their responsibility.
Turns out that since they are funded by the government, the school has to run the budget based on the number of kids they have and counting real estate, school supplies, food, etc., there is not much left to pay the teachers. And there is very little room to grow their salaries and career progression.
So my daughters come home almost every day with a smile on her face wanting to go back the next day. She is always showing us some projects she did or telling us some story of how they played with some crabs or picked up tomatoes and what she learned from it.
She is living proof that the teachers she has are being successful at their jobs. They stimulate the children positively. But money is out of the equation in this game.
Same with the nurses that are supporting people on Covid-19. Or the restaurant staff who have been able to create a comfortable environment for me to enjoy a delicious meal with friends.
As an entrepreneur, I am in the money-making game for my company. It is a business game. But not everyone is on that same game or should be. Even within a company, people are playing different games. Sometimes the successful designer is the one that delighted the customer on the interface, even though the sales team had some trouble with contracts. The engineer is the one who delivered something fast without bugs.
Success means winning at the game you are playing. The money game is just a game. You can also choose to play the happiness and joy game, or the family game. Some of my closest friends are playing the health game. You can be playing more than one at once.
I like to think I am playing the volume game, where I want to reach millions of people. And in that game, I am still losing, which keeps me motivated to keep going forward.
